Play Therapy:
While play therapy is often associated with children, play therapy can also be beneficial for adults. It provides a non-verbal way to explore emotions and experiences, which can be particularly useful for those who find it difficult to express themselves verbally.
Occupational Therapy uses various meaningful activities to help achieve goals that attempts to improve overall function, well being and performance for children and adults through leisure and meaningful activities.
Consulting with an Occupational Therapist (OT) for mental health intervention offers several benefits.
Holistic approach: OTs consider the interaction between an individual's cognitive, psychological, and physical abilities in relation to their occupation, interests, goals and environment.
Tailored interventions: Based on the assessment results, OTs can develop personalized strategies to help improve and address specific challenges to attempt to improve mental health and well being.
A work assessment, also known as a functional capacity evaluation, is a specialized assessment which assesses an individual's capacity to fulfill the demands of their work. At Work Play Therapy we assess and evaluate an individual’s cognitive and psycho-emotional capacity to determine if they are able to meet the demands of their occupation by conducting a Cognitive Functional Capacity Evaluation (CFCE).
Sometimes patients/clients will need: a formal assessment as a means to prove that they are fit to return to work, i.e. a work assessment, more commonly known as a functional capacity evaluation (FCE).
This is generally to justify for their temporary incapacity leave, medical boarding or insurance disability benefit claims. Most of the time when an FCE is needed, the patient has gone through months of intervention already and then there comes a point when they must either go back to work or extend their sick leave or postpone going back to work. Either way there needs to be a way to prove they are fit to return to work or that their sick leave can be extended. This is done by doing a cognitive functional capacity evaluation/assessment with an OT.
